1. Who we are

This website, beatingbetting.co.uk (“Beating Betting”, “we”, “us”), is owned and operated from the United Kingdom. We provide free educational content about matched betting, sports betting, and related topics. All content on this site is intended for users aged 18 and over.

For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the data controller for the personal information we collect from you on this site.

2. What information we collect

We collect personal information in the following ways:

  • Email signup forms. When you join our email list, we collect the email address you provide, the date and time you signed up, and the IP address you used to subscribe.
  • Contact form. When you contact us, we collect your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment on an article, we collect the name, email and (optionally) website you provide, the contents of your comment, your IP address, and your browser user-agent string.
  • Analytics data. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the site. This collects information such as the pages you visit, your approximate location (country/region), the device and browser you use, and how you arrived at the site (referrer). IP addresses are anonymised by default.
  • Server access logs. Our hosting provider records standard web server logs including IP address, requested URL, response status, and timestamp, for security and operational purposes.

3. Why we use this information

We use the information described above for the following purposes:

  • To send you the email content you signed up for, including matched-betting tips, tutorials and offers.
  • To respond to enquiries you send via the contact form.
  • To moderate, display and reply to comments you leave on articles.
  • To understand how the site is used and to improve our content and user experience.
  • To detect and prevent abuse, spam and fraudulent activity.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Our legal bases under UK GDPR are: consent (for marketing emails and non-essential cookies), legitimate interests (for analytics, comment moderation, and site security), and contract (for responding to enquiries you initiate).

4. Cookies and tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:

  • Strictly necessary cookies for the basic operation of the site (e.g. remembering whether you’ve dismissed a popup).
  • Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics 4 to measure site usage in aggregate.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies set when you click on links to third-party sportsbooks, exchanges or other partner sites. These cookies are set by the third party (the merchant), not by us, and are used by them to attribute referrals.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the following categories of recipients, and only as necessary:

  • Hosting provider: Cloudways (a DigitalOcean company), which hosts the website and processes server requests.
  • Email marketing service: AWeber Communications, Inc. We use AWeber to deliver our email newsletters and educational content. When you sign up, your email address, IP address and signup timestamp are transmitted to AWeber and stored on their systems. AWeber is based in the United States. See AWeber’s privacy policy for details of their processing.
  • Analytics: Google (Google Analytics 4).
  • Spam filtering: Akismet (Automattic) for comment spam detection. Comment data including your name, email, IP and message content is sent to Akismet for evaluation.
  • Affiliate partners: When you click an affiliate link to a third-party site, that third party receives information about your visit (typically your IP address, the referring URL, and an identifier confirming the click came from us). Their use of that data is governed by their own privacy policies.
  • Legal authorities: Where required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.

6. International data transfers

Some of the third parties listed above (notably Google, Automattic and AWeber) are based outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or transfers to countries with an adequacy decision.

7. How long we keep your information

  • Email subscribers: until you unsubscribe (link included in every email).
  • Contact form messages: typically up to 24 months after our final reply, then deleted.
  • Comments: retained as long as the article is published, unless you ask us to remove yours.
  • Analytics data: aggregated retention is governed by Google Analytics’ default retention settings (currently 14 months for user-level and event data).
  • Server logs: typically rotated within 30 days.

8. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the following rights:

  • The right to be informed (this policy).
  • The right of access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • The right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • The right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data, subject to legal retention requirements.
  • The right to restrict processing.
  • The right to data portability.
  • The right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, including direct marketing.
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.

9. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

This site contains content related to gambling. It is not intended for, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of the page indicates when it was most recently changed. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact
